I was privileged at my dental school to be on the research committee for whitening. So 25 years ago we did a hypothesis of why people had sensitivity with whitening, and we realized the active ingredient only lasts up to 90 minutes. And so luckily I was able to show that you can whiten for an hour to 90 minutes every day and get the same whiteness as sleeping with it, and we decreased sensitivity by 85%. Almost anyone can benefit from whitening. We can really enhance their natural color because everything has stains. Broccoli, red wine, carrots, tea, and so over time we absorb more stains into our enamel and the whitening pulls the stain out. One thing that's so exciting about what we can do here at this office is because I've done the research on whitening I can see who's a good candidate and what type of whitening that candidate needs. Some people I might prescribe just a special toothpaste and some pre-made trays that will do a great job at a way lower price. Other people need the traditional custom trays which do a good job, but even now we can do tetracycline on intrinsic stain patients and get their teeth whiter with something called the KöR Whitening System. It's just exciting to do something that's simple and now painless for people to have a whiter, brighter smile.
