Dental Bridges

Several consecutive missing teeth can affect the function of your bite.

A dental bridge can restore that function, allowing you to eat and speak properly once more.

Dr. Patrick Tanner in South Ogden, UT, can help craft a custom bridge to give you a beautiful and functional smile.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge helps fill in the gap caused by one or more missing teeth. The bridge attaches to two abutment teeth, which will be given crowns, or to two dental implants with crown restorations. The artificial tooth or teeth that fill in the gap are called pontics.

A Closer Look at Dental Bridges

With a traditional bridge, the abutment teeth, also known as anchoring teeth, are reshaped by your dentist to allow the bridge to fit properly. This permanent restoration is crafted to match your natural teeth.

Implant-Supported Bridges

Dental implants provide amazing jawbone health benefits. When you are missing a tooth, the jawbone loses the stimulation the tooth root once provided and begins to deteriorate. Implants return that stimulation, stopping and preventing bone atrophy.

For dental bridges, implants paired with dental crowns act as the anchoring tooth for the pontic. This is often a great option for patients with more than one missing tooth. However, if you have several missing teeth, traditional or implant-supported dentures may be a better option. Our South Ogden dental practice offers a range of restorative dentistry options such as dentures to fit your unique dental needs.

Dental Bridge Timeline

Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation, your dentist will examine your mouth to determine if a dental bridge is right for you.

If you need dental implants, he will refer you to our trusted local surgeons for implant placement. The dental implants need several months to heal and fuse to the bone.

For traditional bridges, your anchoring teeth will be prepped for crowns. Our bridges use biomimetic crowns that preserve as much of the tooth structure as possible.

Impressions

Your dentist will take impressions of your mouth. At our South Ogden dental practice, we use both traditional and digital impressions. These are sent to the lab where they will craft your custom bridge. Often a temporary bridge is placed while you wait for your permanent bridge to be crafted.

Bridge Placement

After about 10 working days, your custom dental bridge will arrive at our dental practice. You will have an appointment where your dentist will permanently bond the crowns and bridge to your teeth.

Financing Options Available

At South Ogden Smiles, we accept all major credit cards as well as CareCredit® financing in order to make dental treatment more affordable to our patients.
